Christmas Cards by Charles Eames

Throughout the years, Charles Eames hand-drew Christmas cards for his loved ones. Many of the cards were lithographs with a touch of hand coloring, and they featured everything from churches and dogs to inviting-looking homes. Displayed is a sampling from the years between 1927 and 1931.

Charles made a festive reindeer for his mother, Celine, in 1929 and a beautiful church rectory flanked by old trees for his sister, Adele, and brother-and-law, Vincent. The card with a wreathed door was for Fred and Lucia Woermann, the parents of Charles’s first wife. The “Merry Christmas” card from 1931 shows Charles, Catherine, and daughter Lucia standing on a cartoon-like map of St. Louis, Missouri.
