1970
Charles and Ray produced Soft Pad for the Herman Miller Furniture Company to describe the new Eames Soft Pad Group chair system and explain its design.
They based the film on an existing three-screen slideshow and transformed still images to film footage. They also incorporated live-action photography shot at the Eames House. Close-ups reveal details of the chair’s construction, leather, stitching, hardware, and the connections used to join them.
When the Eameses had a new piece or collection of furniture to introduce, they often put together a short presentation for Herman Miller to demonstrate the important design aspects of the new product.
